Aerial Acro - Lyra Hoop & Silk
The story of aerial performance is as ancient as it is diverse, with early records indicating forms of aerial acrobatics being part of traditional Chinese circuses over 2,000 years ago.
Modern day aerial acrobatics (lyra hoop or silks) have been captivating audiences since the late 1800’s. In 1893, performer called “Caedo” recorded their hoop performance in the New York Clipper.
In the late 1950s, a French circus school introduced a new style of Silks performance that required greater flexibility, movement & expression. Silks have been incorporated into the circus arts and practiced as a form of aerial fitness.
Pole Fitness
Pole dancing is an art.
Presently there is an effort to include pole dancing in the Olympics, which is strongly supported by thousands across the world, including International Pole Dance Fitness Association (IPDFA).
These centuries-old techniques have developed from a combination of finely tuned 12th century Chinese circus skills to the energetic, acrobatic skills (known as Mallakhamb) of the Indians 800 years ago, and the alluring dance skills from modern-day pole dancing which heavily relies upon fitness, strength, flexibility and endurance.
